Jerry K 12-12-2006, 02:07 AM thread moved from Tech to Tech forum to Sound Driver Requests. You need to identify your motherboard by brand, model, and/or bios id string and better yet, include the audio chipset number. If you don't know then use one of these methods: To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml Run the program and then: Click on Computer Click on Summary Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An alternative program is Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com (a little more simple to use than Everest but not as good about identifying a place to find the driver). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A 3rd program is AIDA32 it's a professional system information, diagnostics and benchmarking program for Windows platforms. It extracts details of all components of the PC. It can display information on the screen, print it, or save it to file in various formats like HTML, CSV or XML. For corporate users, AIDA32 Enterprise offers command-line switches, network audit and audit statistics, remote system information and network management. You can choose your download link from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download183.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- jeffreysearch 12-12-2006, 02:28 AM Thanks Jerry! i have the box it came in? its ECS- Elitegroup K8T800-A . it has a lot of different symbols on the cover of the box eg AGP8X ?? but not sure which one is the sound card ? i also have the Cd as well?but am worried about installing it as i dont want to cause problems with PC. Thanks Jerry K 12-12-2006, 02:43 AM You must install the driver from the included disk if you want sound. Or go to the ECS website and download it... using the disk method is the easier of the 2 choices. If you're afraid you will mess up the pc, create a restore point (assuming your running Windows XP). That way if you mess up, you can restore it with a few mouse clicks. To create the restore point, click Start, Run, type: msconfig and click ok. Then from the general tab, select Create a Restore Point. jeffreysearch 12-12-2006, 03:24 AM I found the motherboard name- ECS KT600-A and the motherboard chipset- KT600 is that a help? or just load the CD and i can install sound card driver that way?? do i need to uninstall from Sound/video/ gamecontroller ( Tree) before i install new driver. As in my Computer information- it has Soundcard and modem ( Not Installed) Thanks again jeffreysearch 12-12-2006, 04:22 AM Hi There ! i ran the motherboard CD, after making a restore point! and it installed Realtek AC`97 Audio driver, but i cant seem to get any sound?? i have done a speaker check! and ran a CD, but no sound?? any ideas....... Jerry K 12-12-2006, 05:19 AM Open Control Panel, double-click the System icon, select Hardware tab, click Device Manager. Now expand the Sound section by clicking on the plus button next to Sound ~. Do you have any listings showing the sound hardware? Are any flagged as having a problem? If any are devices are flagged, then right click and left click delete. If it offers to delete drivers as well answer yes. Now reinstall the drivers from you disk. Report back if you still have trouble. jeffreysearch 12-12-2006, 10:50 AM I checked the device man- under sound/video/ they were fine, it has added RealtekAC97 audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller to the list after running motherboard CD today. But No sound. I checked in Device Man- under System devices, and the system speaker had in properties? (no drivers are installed for this device) is that right?? Anyway! not sure why its not working. As i mentioned earlier? the motherboard is a ECS KT600-A (according to the Everest report i ran today) Thanks again. Jerry K 12-12-2006, 03:33 PM check that speakers are plugged into correct sound out port, also check Volume Control in your task bar to insure volume levels are turned up and not muted. Speakers turned on? Volume control on speaker turned up? There will be no speakers in Device Manager, only the sound device. jeffreysearch 12-13-2006, 11:03 AM Does the Sound device need a driver?? as the AC`97 is in the Sound/Video section of Device manager. Will cross check a few things. Thanks.. |
