I am trying to find audio drivers for win2k and an old HP8606, the tower is 6 years old. HP are as useless as tits on a bull.

For obvious reasons I do not want to reformat the PC back to Windows 98

To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml

Run the program and then:

Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.

An alternative program is Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com (a little more simple to use than Everest but not as good about identifying a place to find the driver).

Note: identifying your sound device is a necessary part of asking for a driver.

Try Aureal-8810-v312(GL3002)

you mean Aureal-8810-v312.exe don't you?

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=75819

uploading member states it's for Windows 98 (not Windows 2000)

so... here's one (members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=52424) for Windows 2000 (wdm_8810.exe)

I'd nearly bet a bneer it works better than the Windows 98 driver.
