This scanner was manufactured 1999 and originally shipped with Mirascan v 3.02(driver?)
I have tried installing this but program indicates that "driver is not located"

Note: the number you posted in not the actual model #. The actual Acer model number is the one on the top lid of the scanner. However, it matters not.....
Instructions for installing Acer brand parallel port scanners in Windows XP:
For this driver to work in XP you must install the MiraScan software then install the scanner manually.
Step 1. Download MiraScan v3.424 from the web : Mirascan_v3424p.exe (ftp://12.145.38.159/scanner/drivers/parallel/mirascanv3424p.zip)
Step 2. Unzip and install the Mira Scan driver that you just downloaded. After installation , system will suggest you to add a scanner
Step 3. Then, add an imaging device
Step 4. Then the Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard comes up. Click Next at the bottom.
Step 5. Then on Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard screen it will ask you which scanner or camera do you want to install? You want to go where it says Manufacturer and then click on EPPSCANNER and where it says Model it should say color flatbedscanner. Make sure it is highlighted, also. Click on Next at the bottom.
Note: For additional screen shots of this procedure and installation procedures, please read the pdf file posted here: scpinwxp-eng.pdf (ftp://12.145.38.159/scanner/manuals/scpinwxp-eng.pdf)
The Screenshots show to be for Mirascan v3.423 but procedure is same for v3.424
Note: Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view or print this file.
Thanks Jerry,
who would have thought that the Model No. stated on the label is not the actual No?
However, I have downloaded correct driver and installed scanner as per your instructions.
Control panel now indicates that scanner(color flatbed)is working correctly but when I invoke copier program I get the mirascan splashscreen and then a message "scanner not found"
I notice (from the pdf file you quoted ) that adobe photoshop is required to load twain driver. Is this necessary?
If so,is there a work around?

I don't believe that Adobe Photoshop is required. But if the pdf file (I haven't read it in a long time so don't remember) states you must have it, I guess they know what their talking about. In your ocr scanning software, have you clicked on File, then click on AQUIRE, then select your twain driver from the list. If you have other devices installed on your machine that require twain drivers then you will see all of them in the list when aquiring.... just select the twain driver that relates to your Acer scanner. This only needs to be done once.
Yes, it's weird how Acer puts one model # on the back tag, then a totally different model # on the lid. They only provide drivers based on the model # on the lid.
Scanner woes continue.
1.Control panel(scanners & camera)indicate color flatbed scanner installed and when I run the diagnostic test(under properties) it reports back as ok.
2.Driverguide toolkit also shows scanner and driver connected.
3.I have run 3 progs that request acquire scanner/driver and they all indicate the choice of Mirascan V 3.42 ( as downloaded) as being available. Each time ,however, I get the same message,"scanner not found, check connections and power."
Can I assume all is well if diagnostic test shows ok?
