and....? Downloading firmware will not do anything for your drive. Installing it might have some adverse effect. What version did/does your drive have? What problem did it have that you wished to address with a firmware update? Did the firmware improve that issue?

I'm not sure what you saying or asking here.... all drives made in 2005 (and most previous year models work very well in Windows 2000.

Drivers did not make your drive work as a "cd only"... The Windows operating system did. And drivers will not make it work as a "burner" either. Compatible recording software will.

My drive will work as cd-rom only just fine . It does not have the option to format , write to a cd etc. I need the driver just like the driver that came with my drive on a cd . I did not buy it new so they will not send it to me .

Perhaps you failed to read (or understand) my earlier comment.

You drive DOES NOT require a driver. Recording functions are supplied by compatible recording software. If you have NONE, then it will remain that way until you obtain & install such software.

Please visit any quality recording software manufacturers website and buy it... you are not allowed to beg or ask for copyrighted software on this site or ask another member to disrepect laws and send it to you illegally.

Trial versions are available from Roxio and Ahead but are restricted in features. There are free recording softwares available but in my opionion are less than desirable.
