You're using the wrong firmware or don't understand how to use what you do have. This is the correct method to update LTR-52246S firmware (and btw, it's not refered to as as driver)

So your request has changed from "I need a firmware update" to "My optical drives are not detected by the os". There are MULTIPLE identical requests in this forum, that when read and instructions followed, will usually solve this problem. and you won't have to read but less than 25 latest to find them. I have posted the how to's multiple times and have even provided a link for a file that will do it for you automatically. what more can I do other than tell you to simply read? It goes something like this:
common problem in Windows XP... not a fault in the drive but the XP operating system.
Here are previous threads showing 2 different ways to fix the problem:
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22131
(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22104
(manual fix that requires editing the registry, post #2, more difficult to do
than the automatic fix listed above)
Thank you for your help jerry and that sorry that I am such a dumbo in this area.
PS Needless to say..your instructions solved all my problems, thank you agin and I promise | will get my act together before asking for your help agin! Thanks again jerry
