going though my hard drive cleaning as much as i could for recovery of an older drive, i ended up deleting a compac folder that held the drives or something. now windows fails to load the drivers for the CD/DVD drive.

Does not require any driver. Windows XP operating system provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk but no support for burning dvd disks or for playing them. For that task, compatible dvd decoding and compatible 3rd party recording software is required. eg: Roxio or Nero, WinDVD or PowerDVD.

If your problem is non-detection of the drive, eg: drive does not appear in Device Manager or My Computer, please read some of the threads below yours for a "upper and lower filter delete [in the registry] fix". It contains instructions on the delete the upper and lower filters fix

Also, there is a STICKY posted in this forum that contains a file from Microsoft and instructions that will do this registry edit automatically instead of having to do it manually.


And here's another method that will do this automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.

After performing this registry fix, just reboot the pc. Now your drive should be visible in My Computer and work properly.
