Dear Friends,
I work on two different Pentium MMX computers (A & B) on Windows98SE. Both have Intel YM430TX motherboard, 256 MB RAM and Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.
I bought Kingston DTI/512 and DTI/1GB Data Traveler 2.0 flash memories. I installed DTI.exe and DataTraveler 2.0 Driver for 98SE from Kingston's website. Though as per Kingston, the later one was not necessary for the above devices. Data Traveler 2.0 were still not working. Then I don't have a record of which softwares I installed but suddenly these USB devices started working perfectly on Computer-A, while it is not at all working on Computer-B. I found in the Add/Remove Software list of Windows about a software "USB Flash Disk 98 Driver". But it is not there in the ProgramFiles. I also don't know if this has any function in working those devices.
Anyway, then I concentrated on Computer-B, where those devices were not working. I checked and listed all *.dll, *.sys, *.inf files related to Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 from Computer-A. I searched and found the same set of files are also present in Computer-B. But plugging-in the DataTraveler is showing the 'yellow mark of exclamation' on Hard Disk Controller and Intel 82371 USB Controller list.
I tried different drivers from DriverGuide.com but all in vain. I clean installed Win2K on Computer-B. The USB devices are showing and working ONLY with 'read only'state. Writing and/or copying from devices making these USB devices hang. At times even a 'double click' to open a file is also stopping the device to work. The error message indicates absence of required driver or hardware failure. On rebooting the computer again those USB devices show on Explorer. Files can be seen or read. But rest of the problems are same as above.
Is there anybody who can help me to solve my problem? Please write to me at <noemailaddys@allowed.com>.
Yours sincerely
~Ashoke~
