Optical drives never require a driver when used in Windows XP. The XP os provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. It contains no support for burning cd-rw or dvd disks or for playing dvd disks. For that task compatible recording and dvd decoding software is required (like Easy Cd Creator or Nero & WinDVD or PowerDVD).
