I have a hard drive that I recently purchased. I tried connecting it to my computer, but it is not detected. I'm sure that I set the master/slave/cs jumper right and all the power and ribbons. It worked on the other computer that I installed it in. it says that it is an enhanced ide. my computer has a 450 AMD processor. Any help as to why my computer won't detect it is needed. Is the bios not set up correctly. thanks
Eric

Have a look in the bios has it been detected, use Auto detect in the bios
Recheck jumpers
If it gets detected but you cant format all the drive you will need to update the bios or use a WD program to install the drive.
I think I have one somewhere, you can email me at

data lifeguard tools
The downloadable Data Lifeguard Tools now comes in both DOS and Windows versions and was written specifically for the installation of Western Digital EIDE hard drives. If your computer system already has a hard drive installed with an operating system of Windows 98SE or greater, you should use the Windows version of Data Lifeguard for best results. The DOS version is required if installing a hard drive in a new system without existing operating system support.
diagnostic utility
The Diagnostics utility allows you to test the drive, print results for last drive tested, repair errors found during the Test Drive option and write zeros to the drive.
data lifeguard diagnostics for windows
This is a Windows version of the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics utility. The utility can perform drive identification, diagnostics, and repairs on a Western Digital FireWire, EIDE, or USB drive. In addition, it can provide you with the drive's serial and model numbers.
