I haven't been able to verify that a driver is required. What happens when you plug it into a working usb port?

The files will down load but windows is unable to open them.
It does need the driver, was working fine with enclosed software but it disapeared from my computer when I had to reload win xp and I am unable to find the disk that came with the camera. JVC's part supplier has the disk listed but is not in stock and they say it will be at least 2mos before ir is in stock. Thanks for the interest.
