Does anyone have experience with a D-Link 704UP router/print server or something similar. I have successfully set up the router. A computer on the Lan side can get on the internet no problem. I have set up the print server with an HP LJ 1210 and can print to it from within the Lan. The problem I am having is trying to print to the print server from the Wan side (outside the router). I am pleased with the device but in order to get a lab of computers connected to the print server means I will have to move the lab hub from outside the router to inside and it means a nice wiring mess/job. I can ping the router from the Wan side and I set up the printer the same on both computers. D-Link provides special drivers that install a local lpr port and I have changed the ip address associated with the lpr port to reflect the correct Wan/Lan addresses. D-Link has a bunch of security setting that are accessible (firewall, filtering, etc), but which one will let me print????

Here is the response from D-Link. It sounds as if it might be possible but might not be possible. ?????

"It is possible however we do not support printing from the WAN side of a router. The print server intended use is for the LAN side."

All this seems a bit complicated....
try to make it simple.
first I'll talk about the platform. what paltform are you on.
If You'r using XP or XP pro, there is a two very simple ways to handle the probleme.

(I personnaly do not use a router for my computers anymore, I use a Switch)
Hubs also do the trick)
( what kind of router do you have? multi port?)

1-solution
two D-link ethernet simple cards on main computer needed. use the main (or preferred) computer as a router.
go to ethernet configuration and share both net and print (be precise). you can use the wizard- prefer manual config.- & "I have direct acces to internet and I share it with other computers" and so on.

plug in your main computer to your router or better, your Hub. and then the Hub to your second computer.

second computer_ go again to config box and make shure when in the config box that it's runing as a "guest" for all the features you need.

2_solution
the Net goes to the router (or Hub) and to both computers.
you need to also have a "host" and "guest" clearly defined configuration for your computers.

(The advantage of xp from older systems is that it andles IP and DNS for shared computers by itself.)

and check the sharing device!.

that works with NT, 98, and all I now of, exception made of automatic virtual IP adresses (and needed router) .

If you still have problems I'll be back on line with precise questions to fix your probleme
