The sound card I am currently using is an Avance AC97 built into my computers motherboard. I recently had the unfortunate task of being forced to reformat my harddrive and thus reinstall all of the associated sound hardware etc.

The problem arose when it asked for the drivers I pointed it to the location on the CD that came with the computer it installed about 80% then the blue screen of death.

Further attempts to reinstall the drivers met with the same fate even after installing the latest DirectX drivers and downloading what I could off of windows update. (I also tried the drivers from driverguide.com).

Any help would be much appreciated.

You will need to state what Windows os you're running and also provide us with the brand and model of your motherboard (or bios id string). Stating what sound chipset you have would also be recommended. Avance ac97 can cover several chipsets and manufacturer's. AC97 is not a chipset number, it's a generic name that Windows assigns in device manager when it doesn't know about the chipset.
