I have an HP Deskjet printer. I had to buy a USB parallel Printer Adapter because I couldn't find the one that came with the computer. I've been trying to install the adapter, but the LPT10 port isn't on the list of ports. How can I get that port on the list? I've been trying to add new ports but it's to no avail.
I had Windows search automatically for drivers as well as search for and install software for device--"Belkin USB Printer Device v1.1". It also did not configure my printer. What do I do?

Perhaps you could get no answers previously because you fed no bones. That makes for more barking when done.
Your printer is what brand and model? and it has what kind of port?
This usb parallel adapter is WHAT? (description) eg:Who made it? and what model is it?
You are connecting this device to the pc how?
and the port which you are connecting to on the pc.... it's working ok?
With your skimpy description, we don't know if you are trying to connect a usb printer to a parallel port or a parallel printer to a usb port. Beginning to see the problem here? :)
Note: The tech to tech section was designed for just that... your request is PRINTER related so it has been moved to the appropriate section of this forum.
Sorry about that, thanks for responding.
My printer is a Hewlett Packard DeskJet 712C. It's connected directly to the computer by the USB parallel adapter, which I bought for it just a week ago. It didn't come with a USB connection, it came with a bigger connection for the end that would be attached to the computer--the kind with two screws on either end (forgive me if I'm not a computer pro :[ ).
The USB parallel adapter is a Bellkin model F5U002. It's connected by plug & play.
I don't really understand the installation manual because it's saying two different things. In the booklet it says that for Win ME Windows would search for and install software for the "Belkin USB Printer Device v1.1" and then all I would have to do from there was go to the printer properties-details and choose LPT:10(Belkin Deluxe USB-LPT Port) under "Print to the foll. port". Well, I didn't see "LPT:10" in the selection.
I discovered that a yellow card that came with the booklet (that was detached) it gave a different port address, which was "USB Virtual printer port for USB". The latter address is amongst the selections, but the computer is currently printing to that port and nothing (and I mean nothing) is happening.
When I tried to install the printer, it asked to which port should it print to but when I entered "USB Virtual printer port for USB", it said that the port name was too long.
The computer isn't even aware that a printer is connected to it. There is no communication between the two.
I guess I'm trying to connect a parallel printer to a usb port.
Am I coming off as demanding? I'll blame it on the estrogen. :)

here i have the same problem: hp deskjet 710c parallel, connected via
a cable adapter with parallel connection on the printer side, and a usb
connection on the computer side. intalled on the usb001 virtual port,
but the puter doesn't seem to have a sign recognizing the printer, as well
as the printer shows no sign to try to print the testing page...
thanks, ariel.

Here's the trick: Install the printer to any port that will allow installation to complete. Don't waste time trying to print a test page now it wont work!
After installing, then go to your control panel then open printers. Right Click the printer you are installing, and then select properties. Select the details tab, then in the Print to the following port selection box, select the "USB Virtual printer port for USB". note there may be more to the name than that like "LPT2" or "LPT3" or "Com6". Click "Apply"
Go back to the "General" tab, and click "Print Test Page" does it print now? That means that you didn't need expert help, you just needed to ask someone who had the same problem, and called Belkin's 1-800 number and got the "workaround" solution or you needed to make the call yourself.
Hey even the most novice of novices can learn! The lesson here today? Simple: An expert doesn't know everything. He just knows how to find out whenever he needs to know. Guess I am an expert compared to you.
