Hi all,
I am having troubels configuring wingman USB gamepad so I ended up downloading the
usb-win98SE-all.exe
file grom DriverGuide, the only prob is that I really don't know how to include the USB.inf or the *.sys files it contains in to the system ones.
they look like they should go in system.ini but I'n not sure at all.
please let me know soon,
thanks

Some drivers come with installation programs - something like SETUP.EXE. If you see such a file then try running it. Others have only an INF file and a load of other stuff. In this case you can try one of two things:
If your new hardware appears in Device Manager but is not working properly then click on update driver. Windows will ask you where the new driver is. You browse to the INF file. This contains the information Windows needs about what to do with all the other files.
If you can't find your hardware then use the Add New Hardware wizard. Windows will offer to look for new hardware. There is no harm in doing this but if it hasn't found it already then it probably wont find anything now. Tell it you want to select your new hardware from a list. You will get a list of hardware types from which you pick something appropriate. Next you click on Have Disk and browse to that INF file.

The file "usb-win98SE-all.exe" is basically the Windows 98SE usb driver files all compressed into a single self-executing file. These are the same files found on any Windows 98SE installation disk. It was designed to be easy to extract to a favorite folder on your hard drive and that way when USB files are needed, just point the installation program to this folder....saves having to hunt up that lost or misplaced Win 98 install disk. Anytime usb files are needed by a hardware detection... it normally prompts you to insert your Win98 install disk... this is the point where you tell it to look on your hard drive (where you extracted this file) instead of allowing it to look for the install cd.
Bear in mind this set of drivers is not for ANY usb device... it's the drivers that enable your usb port so the usb connected device can be seen by the system. You will still need the drivers for your USB device (if any are required).
Hope this clears up any confusion about what exactly the file is for. :)
