Hi all,
Got a slight, but annoying problem, any help would be much appreciated.
Having recently acquired a newly donated motherboard, rebuilding my pc was pretty straightforward. However, 1 problem has just occured to me. The Ethernet card which I have installed is a Kingston KNE110TX. This seemed to be, and still seems to be working ok, but i have noticed that my downloads are a little slow, considering I have a 150k broadband connection. So I thought I'd have a look in Device Manager to see if there were any reported faults. Imagine my surprise when I saw that there were none, however it is being seen as a Linksys LNE100TX. Now I'm not really clued up on this issue, but I would imagine that if the wrong card is being identified, then the wrong driver is installed? This was brought home to me when I tried to install a new driver from CD for the KNE110TX, without even looking at who made the card that Win2000 Pro was seeing. It was identified as a better driver for the device, but would not load because of a conflicting INF. problem, I would imagine because they are two completely different drivers! Lol.
What I need to know, please, is what can I do to make Device Manager see the correct card? If it is any help for you to know, it is a Micro-Star MS6160 motherboard, with a 366M/hz Celeron processor, and 128Mb RAM. I didnt have this problem before I upgraded from Win98SE, and have only just noticed it on Win2000Pro after a couple of months. But....those downloads are a bit slow :-(
Help very much appreciated.
Thanking you all in advance.
I realise that some of you may be thinking "This question should be in the hardware forum?" However, I did not have the same problem when using Win98se, and the card doesnt seem to have any problems, it is just that Win2000Pro is seeing it as a completely different card.
Therefore, I assumed it to be more of an O/S topic than a hardware one.
Sorry for any confusion caused.
Inzo.
