USB HD's do not require any driver when used in Windows XP so I'm curious... where on Buslink website did you find drivers that don't work?

Jerry, I beg to disagree with you. I have a USB L20 Buslink external drive and I am searching for a driver for it. XP does NOT recognize the device and does not have a driver. If you have a suggestion to get it to work or a useable driver I would gretly appreciate it. thanks.

You can disagree all you want to but you won't find any XP driver for this device. When you do show it to me.
You probably have a usb port problem or a defective drive.

:) 1st. one in the list... L Series Yellow End :)
There are two drivers available... Either will work...
These drives require an SCSI Adapter...

huh??? usb drives require a SCSI adapter.... this is a new one to me. I own 4 usb drives of different brands and not a single one requires a driver. They are all PNP. (and they don't require a SCSI Adapter either)

Hi, Jerry, he's right. The Buslink external USB hard disks (I have the "USB Disk on the Go") require a SCSI driver, in addition to the USB driver. It's a real pain. The drivers on Buslink's website don't work all the time. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

That's ridiculous. Why would a USB drive require a SCSI driver? You may be right about the drive requiring a driver but SCSI driver I disagree. I've owned and sold hundreds of usb hard drives in every imaginably usb enclosure known to man and not a single one of them ever required any driver whatsoever other than what Microsoft provides with the Windows XP operating system.... but I've never use an offbrand model. There must be some way of backing your claim that the L80 usb hard drive requires a SCSI driver. I'm still waiting to see the proof.
It would be interesting to see the contents of the BUSlink SETUP.EXE file. It's a bit difficult to inpect the contents of an EXE file but anyone who has please post the file names that it writes to the hard drive.

Hard drives do not require a driver (in any os). If an IDE or scsi drive is mounted in an external enclosure and the enclosure connection is SCSI, then the SCSI controller needs a driver installed in order for the system to see the hd mounted in the enclosure. I don't believe it was ever clarifyed what the exact combination of drive/enclosure was used by the member posting. It was never mentioned. I stick by my original statement that hard drives never require a driver. If you're not convinced then do some reading or get another pro opinion. When someone shows me an actual driver for a hard drive, then I will reopen this thread and post an apology/retraction.
