I have a NeoMagic 256AV card (2.5 MB integegrated). Under only certain conditions can D3D be enabled. I've been doing some research and it says it works if you install Win2k and Dx6. The problem I keep having is getting Dx6 to work.

First I uninstall my current Dx (version 7, comes w/ win2k) using one of the many programs out there.

I then downloaded Dx6, and open it and it says 'extracting xx.xxx' (x=the files its installing). It then gives me the message saying Dx succesfully installed.

I then go to the run menu and type dxdiag, but I get the error message saying the dll file can't be found. I did restart after I installed dx6.

Nothing seems to be working for me. I've tried several different downloads of dx6 from many sites.

Most of the dx6 files won't even start. The one I found says its installing, but after doing searchs, both through the menu manually going through the folders, I can't find anything.

Help please,

Thanks for your time.

You need to reinstall Windows over itself to repair the damage done to the OS by the DirectX uninstall program. Then reinstall the version of DirectX you want.

You will have to reinstall all Hot Fixes and Service Packs.

Later versions of DirectX contain "all" of the previous versions feature set.
attempting to install a version of directx earler than what the operating system shiped with WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS/ISSUES. the directx uninstall programs are to be used to uninstall a later version back to the version that came with the os!! it is not used to replace a base os version with a earler version. this is plainly detailed in the directions of most directx uninstaller programs...people write directions in the hope you will READ THEM "before" trying to use then.
