What do you mean they send you another file CheckItPE.exe?

Is this this wrong file or a 2nd (eg: another) file thats not the correct file? Your terms are difficult to understand. If you bought a bios file from Award and it's not the right file, then contact them and tell them your problem and they will correct it.

From your bios id string, it appears you have a Vtech motherboard, model A3MSA-275. or possibly a Optronix or Saphire motherboard.

How long has it been? Be patient with them and if you don't hear anything with 3-5 days email them every day until they decided to let you know something.

Only if you can identify the motherboard. Phoenix and Award are only bios providers. They have nothing to do with mb manufacturing.

If you don't know what mb you have, then provide the bios id string:

Hi all

I have copied the following from WindowsUpdate.log:-
OS Version = 5.1.2600.2.0.66304
Computer Brand = Tiny Computers
Computer Model = KM266-8237
Bios Revision = 6.00 PG
Bios Name = Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Bios Release Date = 2004-07-28T00:00:00
Locale ID = 2057

Can anyone tell me if I have the most up-to-date BIOS?

VIAŽ KM266 and VIAŽ VT8237 are chipsets, not a motherboard model.

Please provide the motherboard model and the pc brand and model that it came installed in.

A typical motherboard that uses these 2 chipsets is the MSI KM3M-V which can be found here:

Hello Jerry!

I would like your help. I found this string through Google, needing apparently what this other guy was unable to elaborate upon.

I have an older (4 yrs?) generic PC, WinXP Pro.

I had (2) DDR266 - 256mb chips. I went to Crucial.com to see what my machine could be upgraded to. It told me that I had the capacity for (2) 1GB RAM chips. As recommended, I installed (2) 1GB DDR PC3200 (1-sided, high density) RAM chips, yet my machine will only recognized 512MB of each chip. I'd never seen this before, though people I've spoken with state that it's likely a BIOS issue. I've been told that's actually what the OS could handle, with my chip set.

My boot-up/md string looks like this:

Phoenix Award BIOS V6.00PG
Model P4MA PRO BIOS Version 1.22

09/22/02 P4M266-8235-6A6LWV5BC-00

Obviously I am trying to get the (2) 1GB chips that I purchased, to be recognized by the machine. I would sincerely appreciate any help you could provide. I am very computer literate, though FAR from expert (more hardware than s/w). Thank you for your time!!

Your MB. could be a VIA EPIA - P4MA Pro Mainboard

http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/mainboards/others/p4ma_pro.jsp

It appears you have the right ram chips so check the socket pins to insure non are bent then re-seat them.

I am unable to find any info on the RAM... sorry. Maybe someone that has this board (or a manual) can help.

That got me almost there, Thank you!!

One quick question, as I am innocent on Flashing the BIOS.

There does appear to be an upgrade, though not sure it will correct my RAM issue. The program it's using to upgrade asks me "File Name to Program". I figured that out. But then it asks me if I want to Save the BIOS Y/N (I presume Yes), then wants a new File Name. What is the proper file name for the new BIOS? I'm seriously afraid of naming the file, then the PC can't find the right file name to boot from.

I've read through the website and the BIOS Flash program, but can't find an apparent answer.

Thank you for your patience, on I'm sure is a "DUH" question for you!!

It really doesn't matter what file name you use when saving a copy of your current bios. I use a name like: orig_bios.bin or if you know the revision level you can use that instead, example: v5.06.35.bin. And the program will ask you where you want to save it. You can use any drive you have... if you have a USB flash drive that would be a good reliable place to store it. And you can use the hard drive as well.

When it asks you for the new file name, that would be the file that you intend to use to update the bios. So navigate to the location where the new bios file is located and double-click it or single-click then click OPEN.

Wait until the bios is done... you will get notification when the update has finished. At that point you may exist or close the program. Any problems stop and ask, I'll be up pretty late tonight so let me know if you run into any snags. good luck

MB: Microstar MS-6340
original BIOS Award v2.8

I loaded the Award v6.00pg update since v6.00 was the BIOS when I installed the Board. I'm still having issues allocating drivers. I've plugged some hours into getting the system repaired but I'm stuck.
Roll back the BIOS version then update?
Rebuild PC?
any advice, ideas would help
