I've had errors saying that the firmware is out of date. CDs that I've burnt show the files but are unreadable. The drive may display a few thumbnails then it begins having problems reading, drive head sounds like it is repeating read operation and the system hangs.

I'm able to view DVDs with no problem, but burnt CDs I've had varying degrees of success in reading them.

I've read some posts regarding media quality - so I'm sensitive to this and will buy higher quality media ASAP.

I would like to know what the latest version of the WinXP driver for this device is. It appears to have been used for a limited time due to the popularity I find of drivers available.

The latest driver is the one included with the XP os. You can check with the manufacturer or use Google search to see if firmware is available.
