i am currently trying to fix out a second hand pc. hp pavillion 8690. i cannot connect to the internet. i think this is due to not having the drivers for the following
PCI COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE
PCI ETHERNET CONTROLLER
PCI INPUT CONTROLLER
it says there is a problem with the devices. when i try to connect to the net it says configure and set up tcp/ip.
any ideas how to resolve this!

In the support & drivers section
paste in hp pavillion 8690
hit the button
it will take you to page for two types of 8690 click the one you want then on the operating system. some drivers
There is no modem driver there, you will have to take it out and have a look on the chipset for the numbers and on the card

Dale your 8690 came equipped with the riptide audio combo card . the modem and sound are on one card . the drivers for it are available here at driverguide .
