I recently installed an ethernet card (ALN-101C-TB /P VER:FA, ALN-101AS) When I did so my bios error measage came up in the "Blue Screen". I indicated that my bios is not ACPT Compliant go to www.hardware-update.com or if I'm not able to resolve it there I will need to hit the "F7" key and resolve the issue. Can anyone clarify what I would need to do in-order to get my card working with my systems Bios. I have a Gigabyte MB # GA-6VX-4X running w2k Sp2 and an D-LInk ADSL Ethernet modem # DSL-300I.
Thanks for your respones

I'm not familiar with your hardware but this might help. Are you sure it said ACPT and not ACPI? ACPI is a standard for PC power management and it has features like remote wake up (aka wake on LAN or WOL) through network cards. In short, some network cards are designed to stay partially switched on even when the PC is off. They can then watch out for a bit of data known as a magic packet which is an instruction to switch on the PC. (The magic packet contains the card's unique hardware address.) To make all this work you need a PC with the right kind of power supply and BIOS but I don't think ACPI is essential. My old cronk has an earlier power management system called APM but it still supports remote wake up. My guess is that pressing F7 will either enter the BIOS setup or simply disable the network card's remote wake up feature. Give it a try.
