i hope you do know that this is a FLOPPY based interface unit. if not, well now you do.

also this unit requires a jumber to be set depending on installed floppy devices
JP1 (by power connector)

Factory drive select Open

Drive one in two drive system Pins 1 & 2 closed

Drive two in two drive system Pins 2 & 3 closed
where "drive" = existing floppy drive usually and one/two corresponds to A/B floppy drive letters
drive is 400meg native (no compression) and aprox 800meg with compression. do not expect to store more than 400meg of ziped files as compressed files can not be recompressed any smaller.
Sustained Transfer Rate 500KBPS (unless using high speed floppy controller, then aprox 1meg BPS)

drive uses Travan TR-1 carts.
and now the "short" stock reply, for the full one read any of the other replys.

First of all,... support for allmost all tape units come from the "Backup program" which must list your device on it's supported devices list. NT/w2k/XP only support a very small list of tape devices for usage with the builtin NTbackup application.
next, most tape units are scsi based and again require support from the scsi card maker if windows does not support the scsi controller or tape drive natively.

Note: a Qic type drives interface LOOKs like scsi but is not!!!! (read below for QIC info.)
if your device is Internal IDE based then drivers "MIGHT" be needed. (check the Drive makers web site) but again usually are not.
if the unit is parallel

port or a USB unit then drivers ARE REQUIRED (along with tape backup software)

Do not confuse SCSI card drivers with Tape backup software. !!both are required!! to allow the unit to work.

when the SCSI card drivers are installed and working, the SCSI card will show in windows device manager.

and tape backup software can now be installed (not before!)

common tape backup programs are STOMP BACKUP MY PC,

veritas software (both desktop and server versions), Cheyene Software Arcserv. amoung others
older (obselete) apps are HP Colorado Backup. which is no longer supported and has been incorporated into Backup MY PC (stomp bought the rights to it) along with veritas desktop backup software.
Note: that only the last revision (ver9.1) of COlorado Backup had windows ME support. other versions will not work on ME. and ver9.1 also works on windows 2000
With the discontinuance of Colorado Backup, HP has secured software support from VERITAS. They will be

offering at a reduced price to existing users of Colorado Backup, the product `Backup MyPC', VERITAS

technology that is licensed, rebranded, and sold by VERITAS software partners worldwide.

Note: update 03-18-04
HP again is shouing colorado backup as available for download at this HP link.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg10279

(From the link above)
Colorado Backup has been the bundled software solution for the HP Colorado tape drives, also Tapeware supports the later T20 products. Tapeware will continue (as it supports a wider range of current products). After 31-Oct-2001 Colorado Backup II was discontinued and HP has been recommending a software solution supplied by STOMP Inc. called Backup MyPC (BUMP). However, BUMP does not support the Travan external tape drives, nor does it support Windows Me, 2000, or XP. Because there is a need for software to support the external tape drives and for support in the operating systems listed above, HP is making Colorado Backup II available for download.

NOTE: It is important to be aware that there will be no further enhancements or fixes for Colorado Backup and is being offered for use ?as is.?
