Hi
I have bought a "new" PCI wireless adapter, marketed in Australia under the name Excel, but manufactured by Cameo (Taiwan). It is an 802.11b (ie NOT 802.11g). It has gone into an Athlon computer with a Geoforce Motherboard.
When I try to install it in Windows 98 (NOT...NOT Win 98 SE) it seems to install, but doesn't and in the System/Device list it has a yellow ! and under properties, a message "The NDIS.VXD, NTKERN.VXD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2)."
I found hundreds of similar error messages via Google. I installed NTKERN.VXD from a windows 98 SE installation disk into the /SYSTEM and /SYSTEM/VMM directories. One popular (and frequently successful) suggestion was to copy the NDIS.VXD file from Win XP into the /SYSTEM directory, but when I tried to use the XP and 98SE versions of NDIS.VXD the computer would crash when starting up and I'd have to replace them.
I am asking for:
advice; and
the correct drivers for my version of Windows if anyone has them.
Thanks to all who might be able to help.
