I am having a problem. I downloaded a trial version of Roxio's cd burner program and I had to uninstall it because it didn't support my burner. When I uninstalled the program, my floppy drive stopped working. In the system information under the control panel, it shows that my drive is working properly, but when I try to access it, it says that the drive is not accessable. The light won't come on or anything. If my computer crashed, I would be screwed cause I can't even use a boot disk. Could someone please help. I tried Roxio, but to get e-mail support you have to have purchased their product. Thanks

How did you uninstall the Roxio burn program? Hopefully, you used the uninstall program and didn't just delete folders. Using the proper uninstall program would not cause your floppy drive to stop working unless for some reason it deleted files that the floppy shared. You might need to check the registry for remnants of the Roxio program and delete those if any remain. Then try removing the floppy drive in Device Manager, then reboot the pc to allow it to be redected by the os during bootup.

I think you'll find that you CAN boot from a floppy. Try it and see. My reasoning is that if it appears in System Information then the BIOS knows about it - and so you can boot from it. The most likely problem is that some rogue program (eg that CD burner) 'borrowed' the drive letter and hasn't let it go. You could reinstall the program then remove it again. Jerry's advice is also good: delete the floppy drive from your system and let Windows put it back. If Windows makes no attempt to put it back then try the Add New Hardware wizard.

Dean, why buy a floppy when the thing is 99.99% certain to be fine??
Tanks for the tip though ;-)
Just an idea..but it may be wise to check cables inside if you have recently been installing your CDRW..
Otherwise go for the advice of felix and jerry, that is sound, and will probably work..
It may also need cleaning..
Good Luck!
