hi every body , i`m writting from mexico.
i have a problem with my compaq presario 1200, i connect a pair of external speakers and it sounds in mono, with headphones too, i`ve tried with the balance button on the volume, but its worthless. when i bought the computer it came with windows xp, but it was designed for win 98.....so i load the win 98, i download the drivers from compaq.com before they desappear, i look for the driver (jbl pro) i found it in here, but is the same. my soundcard is wrong? do i have to send my laptop to service?

Based on your problem description, I would say yes you need to take it in for service.
