I just successfully loaded drivers for my mouse...thought I was updating them. Previously, a window didn't open unless I clicked on it. Now, every window I open drops to the back, the bar line at the top of the window flashes and I'm stuck with whatever window the mouse passes over. How can I change this so the window stays in the front and doesn't open unless I click on it?

Your new mouse driver obviously gives you a lot more settings than you had before so you need to find and understand them. You don't say what operating system you've got. For Win 9x look in Control Panel for a mouse icon and open that.

The Control Panel was the first place I looked. There just aren't that many options - pointers and speed is about it, even in the advanced settings. I'm running WIN98. The mouse drivers that I did load dropped off and I had to come in with keyboard control to find and reload them. Three of these meeces and I'm still not getting windows to operate correctly. As soon as the mouse moves away from the window, the cursor does also...it's so infuriating.
Thanks for the assist!

I think I've seen something like this somewhere in Win98. It's an option you can set. I'm not sure exactly where I saw it but I'll have a look when I get the chance. (I'm on Win95 at the moment.) You might also try a free (I think) utility called TweakUI. This gives you a new icon in Control Panel with oodles of settings for all sorts of stuff. The mouse section has loads of options in it. I'll get back later if I find out more.

I think I've found it! What you're describing matches exactly what happens when I select "Activation follows mouse (X-mouse)". How you got it into this state is unknown but I did it with TweakUI so you should be able to get out of it the same way. This little utility does indeed add a stack of extra functions to your control panel so it's well worth having - and it's FREE! Search the net for a file called tweakui.zip. I got mine from www.annoyances.org. It's only 80 kbytes so it wont take long to download but its installation isn't obvious. You have to go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Windows Setup - Have Disk then pick up the INF file. If you get stuck just drop an e-mail to felix.ne14ap@btopenworld.com.
