Hello,
I have a problem. The problem is that I am switching from dial up to verizon dsl, I have tried to install the software but when I get to the part where it says I have the USB connection. I want the ethernet and not the USB connection. How do I uninstall the USB driver to just have the ethernet working. I have windows 98 se. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Remove the usb cable, connect the ethernet cable, make sure you have a properly installed ethernet card and it's driver.

I'm not familiar with Verizon but it should be similiar to SBC dsl... all drivers (for the usb port) should be included on the installation disk, as well as the one for the ethernet card (if it came with the modem).

You may need to go into Control Panel, Internet Options icon, Connections tab and tell it "never dial a connection". If using dial-up it will currently be set to "always dial my default internet connection" or something similiar. With dsl you no longer need the dial up feature. :)

could you expand on your term "remove composite driver from device manager"? :)

The Window’s 98 Add New Hardware Wizard does not default the CD-ROM drive as a potential location for USB drivers. As a result, some users accidentally install Win 98 default USB drivers, which are not compatible with the Westell Dual Connect Modem. The default USB drivers need to be removed before installation of the proper drivers can proceed.

also this is good info for any verizon cx's, if you need to manually install drivers from cd

Solution: The driver is located in the "Bin" folder. The complete path would be: x:\bin (where x is the CD rom drive letter)

jerry, if any ?'s are thrown your way about dsl, email, anything like that, especially with VERIZON, please feel free to contact me at a.scroggins@verizonmail.com subject tech info... I can be a great asset with all VZ customers...thanx and i look forward to hearing from all of you

Are you saying that the usb driver must be un-installed in order for the ethernet port to work? Please clarify that issue.
The member did state he wished to use the modem via the ethernet port, so I was wondering if the (Windows 98) usb drivers you mentioned prevent the ethernet from working and if so, how?

Thanks for the additional info.
