This driver is included with the os. Open Control Panel and double-click the ADD NEW HARDWARE icon, Select CD-ROM CONTROLLERS and select Mitsumi then the controller that best matches what you actually have from the list. After a reboot the os will automatically detect the drive. It won't be fast but it should read disks ok.

I had a similar situation as the first gentleman but when I load the controllers they have available on my o/s, when you check out the device manager and connections, it has that famous black question mark in yellow balloon and stated that it is not installed properly or that there are files missing. So what do I do next?

Verify that the actual controller settings match the default. eg: i/o address
