I get ! when looking device manager on the device standard ide/esdi hard disk controller..plus and unable to read any data from cdrom drive even though the device is there as d: drive

And your ide controller/chipset is what? eg: on-board, seperate add on card, other? Chipset number?
And you using what ide driver? From where?
