I guess, XP-Home have more Driver Support as XP-Prof.
But it will work after you install the Driver for your Board.
But i would suggest, you look at the Manufactors page about Drivers from your Board for XP.

I recently had the same problem. In the end I had to format my hard drive and reinstall all the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer. However, despite all this and adding a soundblaster card I still get no sound from my pc. The devices are recognised and windows say that they are working but no sound comes from the speakers (and they are switched on). So I think XP pro has a few more problems. Can anyone help?

Have tried to controll in BIOS if thew sound card has been enabled?
Sometimes some viruses modify the cmos settings and disable bgios featuring like sound card or modem card.
Controll in bios the pheripheral or advanced setup.

You first need the model number of the motherboard and revision. Go to the manufacture web site and find the drivers for the onboard audio. XP is suppose to have all the drivers but I guess they can not get all of them. Down load the drivers. Then remove any audio that XP says is there. Do Not reboot if asked. Now load the drivers and it will prompt to reboot or it will find the device, load the drivers and ask to reboot. If so then now reboot and you should be good.
Hope this helps
