hey.. i need some help updating these drivers for the sony crx100e cd burner so you can overburn 80 minute cds.. i don't know how to use dos.. but apparently you need to know how..

here are the instructions for installing the drivers..

1. The flash utility must be run only in real DOS mode (not in windows DOS box).

2. During the flash you must have not disc in the drive.

UPDCRX.EXE commands

UPDCRX filename /AT|/98 [/P|/1|/2] [/M|/S]

You must at least set [filename] and [/AT or /98].
[Option]
filename :Update filename
/AT : PC/AT compatible /98 : PC-98xx
/P,/1 : Primary /2 : 2ndary
/M : Master /S : Slave
/C : Write sequence change

The 4 possible combinations are :
1st IDE Master : updcrx21 100E_10N.bin /AT /1 /M
1st IDE Slave : updcrx21 100E_10N.bin /AT /1 /S
2nd IDE Master : updcrx21 100E_10N.bin /AT /2 /M
2nd IDE Slave : updcrx21 100E_10N.bin /AT /2 /S

Flashing the drive is done at you own risk.
A bad use of the software could damage you drive definitively.

IF anyone thinks they can help me with this please email me at hazewon@hotmail.com or reply on here.. thanks

First you need to determine where your drive lies in the 4 possible modes above. Once you determine that, then use the command line from dos as instucted. You didn't mention what os you currently have on your system so I cannot advise how to create the needed BARE DOS BOOT DISK, which will be needed to boot your system to DOS mode. You will need this bare boot disk in order to boot your system to dos mode, then be able to launch the required dos command line...

If you're running Windows 9x or Windows ME, create the boot disk in Windows Explorer by right clicking the A: drive, then left click FORMAT, enable the box COPY SYSTEM FILES ONLY by clicking the appropriate button, then click START.
Make sure you have a floppy disk in floppy drive before executing this procedure. When finished, then copy the UPDCRX.EXE file to this boot floppy. Now restart your system and allow the floppy to boot the computer. You may need to enter pc bios and enable Boot from Floppy first. Once booted then if the drive you wish to flash is on the secondary ide controller as master, then execute the following command line:

[you will need to use your keyboard to type the following command line]
updcrx21 100E_10N.bin /AT /2 /M -- the press the enter key.
If your drive is connected different than stated then execute the appropriate command line as instructed.

Follow on-screen prompts til finished. Do not interupt the flash process once it begins... after completion, remove floppy disk, reboot pc. And don't forget to change boot order back to C: in pc bios setup (if previously changed).

And by the way, nice post. Your one of the few to include adequate details. :)

By looking inside... note if 2 ide ribbon cables are present... one going to hard drive and a second one going to cd-rw drive. (drive should be connected to secondary ide port) Then look at backside of CD-RW to see what jumper position...master or slave.

If no floppy drive then we need to know what operating system your running and what other drives are present in system. You may need to flash this drive in another system if you are unable to boot to dos.
