please can someone help. i am running xp pro and i am having problems getting xp to load the driver for my i70 canon printer. i have downloaded the lastest driver from canon website.
i have contacted both microsoft and canon. after spending 1 hr on the phone with canon support they said xp had a problem. i contacted xp and they said canon driver was at fault.
the printer is a usb device and the error comes up in my root hub in device manager as code 28. when i update the driver option it can not find the driver at the location it is set to look at. it comes up with a driver for win9x.
is there another driver i can you from canon for xp i can use, a generic driver.

Before ANY USB device can work properly in Windows XP, the usb port must first work. You need to first insure that the USB port is ENABLED in bios (if onboard usb), then check device manager to insure the usb port is working. If it isn't then you must fix that problem BEFORE installing a driver. Always read and follow the installation instructions that most companies post with the driver. If no instructions are posted, then check the driver download for instructions, text files, or doc files that explain the procedure for proper installation. Some usb devices must be unplugged from the usb port when installing drivers. other require the device to be plugged in first. Again READ the instructions.

When asking for help, please include the name of the driver you downloaded and where (specific url) you got it from, then explain the steps you took to install it, and state what errors (if any) were encountered during install.... otherwise we have no way of knowing what your problem is or if you downloaded the correct driver.
