Your drive cannot be internal and have a USB interface. Internal drives can only have IDE or SCSI interfaces. In order to be USB it would have to be mounted in an external usb enclosure.
Optical drives NEVER require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk.
