I have an Acer 4x8 High Speed CD Rewritable but I cannot get it to work at all. It wont play audio CDs and cannot read any program CDs. I cannot get it to write anything because it cannot even read that there is a CD inserted in it. Im guessing its a driver problem. I hope this will work for it. BLAH!!

Optical drives do not require any driver when used in Windows XP. Win XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk.
Is your drive listed in Device Manager or shown in My Computer?
Has it ever worked? USB drives require a working USB port...check in Device Manager to see if the usb ports are all working properly.
If you have a good drive and a working usb port then the system will automatically detect and install the drive without user intervention.

You cannot have a usb drive that's internal. USB drives are external and connect to a usb port.
