my current driver for the DVD-R is 5.1.2535.0 provided by Microsoft, the problem is XP thinks it's just a CD-R. i've flashed the latest firmware from mad dog (3.F3) dated Feb 2006 but this hasn't solved the issue. i've STFW extensively but can't find the original driver (does it exist?) any help appreciated.

Windows XP has no support for burning DVD-R disks. You must have a compatible recording software installed.
