Hello,

1st, Happy new year!
2d, IŽll need some help to begin this year...

I have an IBM ThinkPad 600X running under Windows 98 SE, and I saw that in the System panel, I have problems with my Hard Disk Controller.

For my Hard Disk, my compter reconize 3 controlers as follow:
- Standar controller for Hard Disk Bus Mastering IDE
- Standar controller for Hard Disk Bus Mastering IDE
- Controller Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE
The last one, doesn't work,it says that there is a conflict with the ressources.

Does somebody knows how I could arrange it?
Propositions? ideas?

Thank you

Don

Go here and download these drivers!
http://www.storagedrivers.com/drivers/76/76774.htm
Actually, these drivers should have been on W98SE cd, when the system was installed it should have included these drivers!

The fact that your system is identifying 2 "identical" Windows standard Bus Master IDE controllers (One each for Primary / Secondary Channels ???) & then the Intel specific chipset version tells me your Device tree list is a little corrupt. With the 2 standard controllers "sharing" the IDE Bus Master channels, it's no wonder the Intel one can't get any resources to run (yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager listing).

Boot Machine, Hold 'F8' key down to get the Win98SE "boot menu". Select Option 3) Safe Mode. Right-Click on 'My Computer' icon and from pop-up menu, select 'Properties' (at the bottom). Go to the 'Device Manager' tab and remove EVERY IDE Controller entry from the tree (say no if the system asks to reboot while doing this). ONLY when all the IDE controller entries are gone (Primary / Secondary channels as well, if they're showing entries on the Devices tree) do we reboot.

Let machine start up as normal, when you logon the Hardware Wizard should pop-up saying found new hardware & identifying the IDE Controller as an Intel device... then (dependant on if the driver files loaded properly when the OS originally installed, or if a seperate motherboard drivers disk was supplied & installed over the OS) it may ask for the CD to re-load things properly. However, once that completes, check back into the Device Manager & everything should be correct...
