I have a presario 17xl2 laptop. It has an M1 video card. It comes with DVD drive as well. Now the problem is I recently upgraded to Windows XP and I noticed that I wasn't able to connect my laptop to the TV anymore since there aren't any monitor setting under control panel-->display--->settings---->advance tab. I searched the web for the driver but I'm not really sure if ATI is supporting the M1 for Windows XP. Then I reformat and installed windows ME. It has the monitor tab and I can extend my display to the TV but the problem is that the DVD drive doesnt read any DVDs at all. When I put the DVD in it doesn't even see the disc. But it reads regular CD.
In conclusion I really need your help on this one, I want to have Windows XP as my OS but I want to be able to extend my view to my TV and also able to Play DVD.
Thank you very much for taking your time to help me.
Best Regards

You must have dvd decoding software installed that's compatible with the os before your drive will be able to play dvd disks.
DVD decoding software written and designed for older Windows os's like 98/ME will not work in the newer Windows XP os.
Same goes for device drivers.... Windows XP os requires Windows XP drivers... Not all devices are supported in Windows XP and not all manufacturers provide Windows XP drivers.... sometimes they leave that up to Microsoft. If neither the manufacturer nor Microsoft provide support for a hardware device, it's very difficult to find 3rd party drivers that are free. :)
