I have a Gateway G6 300 circa Nov 97 with an STB Velocity 128 3D 4Mb agp card. Following a problem with usb scanner detection by Windows ME I can only run in VGA. The PC appears fine in all respects except the video is only running in 16 colours. I have tried system restore ("unable to restore message"), Scanreg and reloading the drivers. Reloading the drivres appears to work fine but the system remains in VGA. Device Manager says that the device is "not working, files may be missing or there is a fault with the device" - all very helpful!! I suspect that Windows is doing its usual routine of not removing all traces of the driver and then not copying the drivers back from CD. Windows states that the drivers are loaded after "Detecting new hardware" and suggests looking form updates. Is it possible to know where in the registry I can find all relevant references to the display card and delete them so that I can truly reinstall, as I presume registry entries should be deleted during the removal of the card from Device Manager? - sorry for the length of the post!!

In Windows Me, if you ever had the drivers install correctly, they will be located in Windows/Options/Cabs, you might have to go 1 step further,
Windows/Options/Cabs/Install. If rightclick your Video Card in Devise Manager and removing it and restarting your computer does'nt do the trick, I suggest highlighting your Video Card, clicking Properties, Driver and choosing to update the driver and than specify where your computer is to search for the driver, C/Windows/Options/Cabs/ or C/Windows/Options/Cabs/Install or
C/Windows/Options/Install.
