Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. SCSI drives (like IDE drives) require proper connection to a working scsi controller. Once that condition is met, the system will automatically detect/install the drive without user intervention. The scsi controller must be visible in device manager and not flagged as having a problem.
