Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. Like IDE drives require proper connection to a working IDE port, SCSI drives require proper connection to a working SCSI controller. That means the scsi controller must be visible in Device Manager and reported to be working by Device Manager. Once this condtion is met, the os will automatically detect/install the drive without user intervention just like IDE drives do. It sounds like you don't have the scsi controller driver installed but only you can tell us that information.
