Trying to install a VIA usb 2.0 2 port pci card in slot 3.

Shows PCI USB on PCI slot 3 twice and igns IRQ 10 and 11 on boot up screen.

Recognises PCI USB on windows start up and requests VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller drivers and installs these from Windows 98SE CD. Windows then repeats this process exactly.

On next boot no PCI devices are shown on boot up screen.

USB is not shown on device manager, but when booting up in safe mode, the drivers are shown on the device manager under USB.

According to VIA instructions, windows should install an unknown device and then you run the CD provided by VIA to install the drivers.

What am I doing wrong?

Am no expert, but it sounds like when Windows installs the driver it changes the IRQ, thus creating a conflict stopping the device from being able to boot with the machine. When your in safe mode set the irq to the 10 and 11 it was originally set at. Also worth having a tweak with the BIOS and the IRQ's.

Hope this is of some help
