I just installed a new EPO DVD-ROM on my system to replace my failing cd drive. I'm running win xp with current service packs and updates, 320 mb of ram an AMD 1.3ghz Thunderbird processor.

The problem I'm having is that I cant run anything in that new drive. Anything I run (Audio CD, Data CD, or DVD) causes an error that says "e:/etc is not a valid Win32 application"

When I try to run a DVD, through the supplied WinDVD program, it says the it's the wrong file format.

I've tried looking for answers on the manufacturers home page, but they wont return my emails. I've used the patch from thier site to upgrade to windvd 4.0, but it hasnt helped.

I'm at my wits end. The only advice I was able to find on another forum was to find and load PowerDVD 4.x. I have found it at a couple of places, but I dont have the money to buy it. I figure since I paid $60 for the drive, I shouldnt have to pay an additional $50 for the software to get it going.

Any help would be appreciated

This error will usually occur where there are faults on the disc - are you trying to run copied dvd's on the drive ?

It could be the drive which is not capable of running dvdr's

otherwise it is probably an incompatibility between your machines dvd rom drivers, I suggest contacting the seller of the dvd rom drive for further support

I've used both copied and original dvds as well as audio cds and data cds. Everything produces the same error code "E:/whatever is not a valid win32 application."

The manufacturer's website doesnt offer anything but an email address and a phone number. I've emailed their support department about 10 times but havent recieved recieved any response.

hi

have you tried checking the jumper switches at the back of the drive?sometimes a wrong master/slave/cable select jumper setting will give that error msg.connect all your removable drives in the second IDE port, the hard disk in the primary IDE port..then set the jumpers from that configuration.

IDE Primary-
HDD 1 C: (one with the installed OS)Primary master
HDD 2 D: (if you have one)Primary slave

IDE Secondary-
CD-ROM E: Secondary master
CD-ROM F: Secondary Slave

Hope this helps
