Hi Marco,

I hope I understood your setup. You have a machine using win98se with a nic connected to a adsl router via a cross-over cable.

Looking at the ip address you have left the default range of the router.
First thing to try is to ping the router to see if you can get a reply to ensure that your local connection is ok.

If you have a connection to your router but not to the web, you can look at a couple of things.

1) try to leave your tcpip settings on your network settings to 'Obtain an IP address Automaticly' restart and try again

2) if you setup Ip address manually try option 1) above. if you want to have a manual ip you must ensure that you set the gateway and the dns configuration this part is important other wise you will have a local connection but no routing to the outside world. you should be able to get dns setting from your service provider.

3) try the usb connection if all else fails

I hope this helps

Luis

Hello,

In the TCP/IP settings select the tab DNS

add the DNS adress of youre main PC If you dont have it make one
example: 168.192.0.1 primary and 168.192.0.2 secundary.
and also the IP adress of youre Main PC
Host is the name of youre main PC. Example: SERVER

Select Gateway.
Put in the gateway the IP adress of youre main PC

if you have more Questions mail me.

you need to download a proxy software and set the one with the usb modem as the dns server on the second machine

i have heard that wingate is good download it here

http://www334.pair.com/qbiknz/downloads/wgsetup.EXE

the setup seems simple enough to follow and i believe that they do multi lingual help files that may be available in your language
